Perfect is the Enemy of Good
~Voltaire, apparently1
John Green recently streamed a book signing stream. At the end of the stream2, he talked about how "Every choice you make limits your options, but you still have to make choices, because otherwise you end up doing nothing, because you're so paralyzed by the thought of making a choice."..."and yet, you have to make the choices anyway".
The words came on a day that I needed to hear them. My default is usually to not make the choice, and do nothing. Boy, have I done a whole lot of nothing in my life.
This advice pushed me to actually get up, actually register this domain, actually figure out how to host it (and be OK with hosting it on GitHub for now, I can upgrade it later), rather than sitting around thinking "well, a website is another option".
With the abundance of options, especially on the internet, it is so easy to be overwhelmed with choices and do nothing. And the social media designed to hold our attention makes is a whole lot easier to choose to do nothing.
So, here's my choice. For now. It doesn't have to be perfect. It'll grow and change. But it exists. And if I didn't make a choice, if I did nothing, then nothing would exist.
And these little inspirations trickling into my earliest blog posts are the fertilizer for my digital garden.
