I've been an on-and-off user of the Finch1 app for years. Somehow I'm almost at a 500 day streak.
Recently they added a new monthly challenge feature with 14 related goals for each month. It's crazy to see how much this app has grown and evolved over time. So far I've only completed one of the monthly challenges.
I'm keeping up with this month's Bird's Eye View Challenge. A recent goal was to look up a local event happening this week, and add it to my calendar. So, tonight I went to a comedy show. It's a local show, showcasing improv students (of all ages). It was my second time going to this particular show. It's one of the most comfortable and inclusive spaces that I've been to in this whole city.
Had this app not encouraged it, I would not have gone. I wouldn't have looked up events or remembered about this venue; and even if I had, I would have convinced myself not to go with excuses of needing to focus more on learning, or avoiding the storm (I got absolutely drenched on the way there, even with an umbrella), or not wanting to go out and be around people. But I'm glad I went.
It's inspriring to see people be brave and open and volunteer to be part of the show, completely fine with being themselves and being silly and playing on stage in front of a bunch of strangers, and it's inspiring to hear the audience be so engaged and encouraging towards the performers. Especially for an improv show where nobody knows what's about to happpen.
I wonder if in a different life I would have been a theater kid, and I wonder how my life would have turned out differently, if at all.
