On the autumn equinox each year, I celebrate change. I look back to see what has changed in the past, particularly in the past year. I look at the present and ask myself what I am changing now and what I want to change. And I look to the future, imagining where I want to be and the changes that I need to make to get there.
A lot of these topics go deeper than what I want to get into in a blog, and so rather record the information using technology, I'll be writing about it in my physical paper journal with a pencil.
The theme also mirrors the weather, highlighting the changing seasons to cold weather, and as such I try to prepare my space to make it more cozy, rearrange my furniture and belongings, or tidy up spaces that need straightening. It's sort of Spring Cleaning, but on the opposite side of the sun.
Sticking with the theme to make my living space more inviting, the Autumn Equinox is also my gift-giving holiday. I wrap a gift for myself of something that will make the colder weather and shorter days a little bit brighter, either something I've always wanted or a set of small gifts to lift my spirits for the season.
With the moment of equinox being later in the day this year, I'm blogging a little earlier (and have preemptively marked my running plan as complete), as many of my equinox activities I'd like to do after the equinox occurs. Journalling, meditating, and running are all activities better suited to the nighttime.
As we approach the moment that the Earth's tilt aligns with the Sun such that the Sun rises and sets due East and West, I'm reflecting on change over the passage of time. Some is good, some is bad, some is neutral, but change itself is constant.
